Respect Bodyboards Party...
Coincidindo com o 09 Viana Pro, Respect Bodyboards organizou uma festa, juntamente com a Park Divison. Durante a noite, Rui Ferreira compartilhou as suas experiências com os bodyboarders locais seguidores, e também houve um sorteio de uma prancha modelo Retro, um fato Dunes e Deluxe Fins, cortesia da Respect Bodyboards.

Web Cams...
Graças há ASSM e com a parceria da SURF REPORT, instalaram 2 Web Cams: uma na Praia das MELÍCIAS (PÓPULO) e outra na Praia de SANTA BÁRBARA (AREAIS) e brevemente irão instalar uma na ilha de SÃO JORGE na FAJÃ DO SANTO CRISTO. Esta iniciativa é sem dúvida de enorme utilidade aos Bodyboarders e o público em geral, verem como estão as condições do mar e o tempo.

ASSM with partnership of SURF REPORT they intalled 2 Web Cams: one in the MELICIAS Beach (POPULO) and another on the beach of SANTA BARBARA (AREAIS) and soon they will install one on the island of S. Jorge in FAJÃ OF SANTO CRISTO. This is undoubtedly of great utility to bodyboarders and to the public, to see how are the conditions of the sea and the weather.

O 1º dia do Viana Pro começou com a as roundas 1 e 2. Ondas a rondar o meio metro/1m com um alto dia de sol e sem vento e com uma transmissão pela Internet muito boa.
Amanhã a competição começará pelas 10h (hora local) e entrará na água o top 16.

Nacional BB Open returns!!!
A FPS e a Associação Portuguesa de Bodyboard, em conjunto com vários clubes locais, vão relançar a temporada de 2009 do Circuito Nacional de Bodyboard. Peniche, Costa da Caparica e Nazaré vão receber as três etapas previstas no calendário agora divulgado
Interrompida por alguns meses, a temporada de 2009 do Circuito Nacional de Bodyboard regressa agora às ondas.
Após um esforço conjunto desenvolvido entre a Federação Portuguesa de Surf, a Associação Portuguesa de Bodyboard e vários clubes locais, ficou decidido avançar com os campeonatos Open e Feminino, estando prevista a realização de três etapas pontuadas com 1000 pontos cada e um prize Money de, respectivamente, €1500 e €500.
De acordo com Paulo Costa, presidente da Associação Portuguesa de Bodyboard, “felizmente depois do sucedido no início deste ano conseguiram-se reunir as condições mínimas para salvar o ano desportivo”, acrescentando que “tem sido um caminho difícil desde o abandono da Extreme.” De qualquer forma, considera o responsável, “estão todos a trabalhar com o empenho e a convicção de que este circuito irá desenrolar-se de forma positiva e que 2010 será um ano memorável para o nosso desporto.”
A primeira fase do Circuito Nacional de Bodyboard 2009 tem lugar em Peniche, de 14 a 16 de Setembro, contando com o apoio do Península de Peniche Surf Clube. No mês seguinte, entre os dias 16 e 18, é a vez de as praias da Costa da Caparica, Almada, receberem a 2ª etapa da competição, prova desta feita a levar a cabo com a colaboração da Associação de Surf e Bodyboard da Costa da Caparica. A aguardada final será, por sua vez, na Nazaré, Aqui, de 6 a 8 de Novembro e com o trabalho conjunto do Clube de Desportos Alternativos da Nazaré, poderão ser apurados os campeões desta temporada que se espera cheia de emoção e adrenalina, com os campeões de 2008, Hugo Pinheiro e Rita Pires, a defenderem este ano os títulos entre outros candidatos.
O Circuito Nacional de Bodyboard 2009 é organizado pela Federação Portuguesa de Surf e conta com os respectivos apoios institucional e local da Associação Portuguesa de Bodyboard, do Península de Peniche Surf Clube, da Associação de Surf e Bodyboard da Costa da Caparica e do Clube de Desportos Alternativos da Nazaré.

Será a 1ª Etapa de abertura ao Europen Leg que conta com 5 etapas por Portugal e Espanha e esta 1ª etapa conta com mais de 100 atletas do mundo inteiro. Rita Pires, será a única feminina nesta etapa que pertence há divisão masculina e será a sua 1ª vez que competirá numa etapa destas no IBA World Tour.

Algumas palavras de Damian King sobre o seu heat no Arica Chilean Challenge e a técnica que os riders usam em campeonatos:
"Eu realmente não me sinto bem para escrever muito, e eu deveria manter a minha boca fechada quando estou neste estado de espírito, então vou manter esta um pouco.
Fui eliminado no primeiro Heat. Eu estava feliz com a maneira que eu estava surfando nas ondas que eu apanhei, mas o problema era que estava pequeno. Quando está pequeno tu começas a ser marcado pelos outros concorrentes (em torno de ti remando, não deixam-te apanhar ondas), é a única maneira que podem vencer. Isso pode parecer duro, mas é verdade, e parece que quanto maior o nome mais eles fazem isso. Podem fazer toda a formação e prática que tiverem mas não significa nada se tu não conseguires apanhar ondas.
Perdi por .3 nos últimos 10 segundos. Devia ter conseguido a pontuação. Penso também.
Sinto-me como me tivessem interrompido antes de eu começar."

"I really don't feel like writing much and I should keep my mouth shut when I am in this frame of mind, so I am going to keep this one brief.
I got knocked out first heat. I was happy with the way I surfed on the waves I caught, but the problem was it was small and I couldn't pay for a set wave. When it's small you get hassled by the other competitors (paddling around you, stopping you catching waves), it's the only way they can win. That might sound rough, but it's true, and it seems the bigger the name the more they do it. It makes all the training and practicing mean nothing if you can't catch waves.
Lost by .3 in the last 10 seconds. Should have got the score I think as well.
Feel like I have been stopped before I got to start. So over it, this was a big point event and I needed this one!"

Day 4 Arica Chilean Challenge
Hoje, a competição esteve com ondas enormes, devido ao grande swell que entrou hoje. A má notícia foi que os portugueses não passaram os oitavos de final, resta saber quem será o vencedor. Daqui a pouco quando tiver o vídeo desde grande dia que rolou, vejam as fotos do dia 4 aqui!

Ewan Donnachie foi o vencedor da etapa do SIC 2009 levando um prémio de 10 mil doláres para casa. Com ondas certinhas de 1.5m houve também outros prémios, assim como:

Melhor tubo – Dave Ballard : 2 semanas em Secret Sumatra – Surf Camp

Arica day 1 Highlights...
Dia 1 do Arica Chilean Challenge, com 1m nos sets sem vento aproveitaram para pôr a rounda 1 e metade da 2 na água. O 1º heat começou as 8h da manhã (hora local da Arica). 1ª rounda foi durante a manhã inteira sem vento nenhum com boas ondas. Há tarde quando se realizou a rounda 2 já estava o mar meio partido por causa do on-shore e pararam a meio. Amanhã acabarão a rounda 2 e começarão a rounda 3, mais informação e para ver a transmissão ao vivo clicem aqui!
