No dia 25 de Junho pelas 8:50h estava eu a levantar voo em direção a Lisboa. Cheguei pelas 11:50h (hora local), e fui directamente ter com o Nuno Cardoso que estava à minha espera cá fora. Fomos para a sua casa (Ericeira) mas nesse dia não surfei pois não havia ondas. Fomos para a praia dos Coxos apanhar sol. No dia a seguir (26 Junho), ao fim do dia, tive a oportunidade de apanhar Reef com umas ondas boas. No dia seguinte (27 Junho) fomos ao Boss e entrámos mas estava pequeno e muito incossistente. Saímos da água e o Nunito deixou-me na Pedra Branca que estava a dar umas ondas com 15 gajos na água, mas ainda assim fiz umas ondas fixes.

On June 25 arround 8:50am I was taking off to Lisbon. I arrived arround 11:50pm (local time), and went straight outside to meet Nuno Cardoso, who was waiting me. Then we went to his house (Ericeira) but we did not surfed that day because it's wad flat. SO we went to Coxos beach for sunbathing. The following day (June 26) at the end of the day, I had the opportunity to score some good waves on Reef. The next day (June 27) I went to Boss and we got in but it was small and very incossistent. We left the water early and Nuno left me in Pedra Branca wich had some waves with 15 guys in the water, but still did some cool waves.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nesse mesmo dia o Nuno foi-me deixar a Carcavelos pelas 16h, mais propriamente à sede da CRCQL (Centro Recreativo e Cultural da Quinta dos Lombos) onde esperava-me a Puremocean, uma escola de Bodyboard local de Carcavelos onde já conhecia o professor da escola, Paulinho Costa, desde que ele e a sua escola tinha cá vindo aos Açores ao 1º Nacional Open. Já conhecia a maior parte dos seus alunos e não foi nada difícil dar-me bem com todos eles felizmente.

In the same day Nuno drived me to Carcavelos as 4pm, more specifically to the HQ of CRCQL where Puremocean, a local Bodyboard school of Carcavelos, I knew already the teacher, Paulinho Costa, since him and his bodyboard school went to Azores to the 1st National Open back at 2009. I already knew most of the kids and it wasn't difficult to get along well with them all fortunately.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seguiu-se uma viagem de 2h até à Figueira da Foz. Chegamos pelas 19:45h e fomos logo para a praia do Cabedelo, onde se iria realizar os Esperanças e o Pro Junior. O mar estava uma grande porcaria mas deu para brincar.

Then it fallowed a 2h drive to Figueira da Foz. We arrived arround 7:45pm and went straight to Cabedelo's beach, the beach of Groms and Pro Junior comps. The conditions were pretty bad but still had some fun.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Depois da surfada, fomos para um Surf Camp local. Adorei lá estar, o Surf Camp oferecia uma qualidade fantástica a um preço não muito caro.

After the session, we went to a local surf camp. I loved being there, that Surf Camp offers a fantastic quality at a not too expensive price.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No dia a seguir (28 Junho), fomos para a Praia do Cabedelo (25min do surfcamp) e lá chegámos pelas 9h da manhã. Era o 1º dia da 4ª Etapa dos Esperanças. Nos Sub-16, eu era o Heat 9 de 12 heats. Passei em 1º com algum destaque e com o maior score do dia (11.45pts) e maior nota de onda (6.35pts). Estava motivado para o meu próximo heat.

The following day (June 28), we went to Cabedelo (25min away from our surfcamp) and we got arrived to the beach arround 9am. It was the first day of Groms 4th stage. In U-16, I was the Heat 9 of 12 heats. I got 1st and the highest score of the day (11.45pts) and highest score wave (6.35pts). I was motivated for my next heat.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No dia a seguir (29 Junho), passei o meu Heat (Ronda 2) mais uma vez em primeiro lugar com algum destaque dos outros competidores do meu heat e nos Quartos-de-final a história voltou a repetir-se. Realmente tudo estava a correr-me bem e eu estava super motivado. Ainda para mais eu estava super feliz com tudo o apoio que estava a receber através do Facebook / telemóvel de todos os meus amigos / conhecidos e mais ainda quando ligava à minha mãe após cada heat e deixava-a com uma felicidade enorme na qual deixava-me super satisfeito e mais que preparado para o próximo heat.

The next day (June 29), I passed my Heat (Round 2) once again in first place and Quarter-final happen the same thing. I realised that I was actually going well in the comp and I was motivated and happy. I was even more hapier with all the support I was receiving through Facebook / mobile phone of all my friends / knowed people and even more so when I called to my mom heat after heat and leave her with a great happiness which let me super happy and more than ready for my next heat.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Segue-se o dia final (30 Junho), com as meias e finais de cada escalão. A minha meia final perdi em 3º lugar e o resultado só foi oficial após a buzina. Cá fora, uns achavam que fui desvalorizado, outros roubado e outros discordaram com alguns scores das minhas ondas. Por mais razões que houvesse para haver tal injustiça, o destino achou que deveria parar por ali. Apenas deixou-me um pouco mal pois queria chegar até à final e ganhar. Mas mesmo assim já não foi mau pois após o meu heat o Manuel Centeno ainda veio ao pé de mim e deixou-me com algumas palavras de muita força, que certamente foram uma recompensa àquele resultado e palavras essas que me deixaram super emocionado e quase me corriam lágrimas pela cara como forma de agradecimento por aquelas palavras. Foi algo que nunca me tinham dito daquela maneira e ainda por cima um bodyboarder como o Centeno. Ficou sem dúvida marcado.

The next day was the final day (June 30), with the semis and finails. My semi final I lost in 3rd place and the official result was only after the horn sound. In the beach, some people thought I were undervalued, some other thoguht that I had been stolen and others disagreed with some of my scored waves. For more reasons there were to be such injustice, the fate decided that I should stop there. It just left me a little upset because I wanted soo bad to reach the final and win. But things weren't bad att all because after my heat Manuel Centeno came up to me and left me with some strong words, which were certainly a reward to that result and words that made me very excited and I almost tears ran down my face like thanking him for those words. It was something that no one said to me like that and such a bodyboarder like Centeno. It was undoubtedly marked.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mas pondo as provas um pouco à parte. No Surf Camp quando vínhamos da praia, estávamos sempre entretidos com algo. Ou era na piscina, ou era a jogar ping-pong, ou era na Internet, ou era a ler revistas de Bodyboard, ou era a ver TV, ou era simplesmente a conversar uns com os outros a apreciar a preveligiada paisagem. Foi sem dúvida muito bom estar lá a conviver também com outro pessoal que lá estava para os campeonatos.

But putting the comps a bit apart. At Surf Camp when we arrived from the beach, we were always entertained with something. In the pool, playing ping-pong, being in the Internet, reading bodyboard magazines, watching TV or just talking with the guys appreciating the beautifull landscape we had. It was certainly great to be there to being with other people who were there for the comps too.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Voltando à competição. No dia 1 de Julho, iniciou-se o Pro Junior. Decorreu na praia da Murtinheira (5min do surfcamp). Ronda 1, estava no Heat 9 de 16 Heats e por acaso tinha o meu amigo e que também veio de São Miguel para o Pro Junior,
Pedro "Pedrim" Correia. Passei o heat em 1º lugar mas infelizmente o Pedrim teve muito azar nas ondas mas mesmo assim estava em 2º lugar e nos últimos segundos foi para 3º lugar. Foi mesmo falta de sorte. Tinha vindo de São Miguel também o Daniel Cabral, nosso amigo que também perdeu no dia a seguir (2 Julho) no seu Heat de estreia, ficando assim eu como único atleta dos Açores na competição.

Back to competition. On July 1, the Pro Junior begam. It was held Murtinheira's beach (5min away from our surfcamp). In Round 1 I was in Heat 9 of 16 Heats, and had my mate also from Azores, Pedro "Pedrim" Correia. I passed the heat in 1st place but unfortunatly Pedrim didn't had much luck on the waves but still was in 2nd place and in the final seconds he passed to 3rd place. He was really unlucky. From São Miguel for the Pro Junior also my friend Daniel Cabral, who also lost in the next day (July 2), so I was the only bodyboarder from Azores in the Pro Junior.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No dia final (3 Julho), segui-se a Ronda 2, passei o meu heat em 2º lugar, o mar estava terrível e o heat foi muito difícil, tive alguma sorte do meu lado e consegui passar em 2º lugar. Estava contente e seguia-se os 4os de final.

On the final day (July 3), in the 2nd round, I passed my heat in s2nd place, the waves were terrible and it was really a thought heat, I had some luck by my side and managed to get 2nd place. I was happy and I were in the quarter finals.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eu era o último heat dos 4os de final, perdi em 3º lugar. Houve um competidor do meu heat que me marcou durante todo o heat, não me deixando fazer ondas. Foi algo que não percebi pois eu estava em último e ele em 3º lugar do heat e supostamente deveria estar a marcar quem estava a passar e não quem está em último e com menos hipóteses de passar, mas competição é competição e é mau quando isso acontece mas temos de aceitar isso, apesar de ser uma derrota com jogo sujo. Mesmo assim ainda fiz uma onda nos últimos 30segundos que me passou para 3º lugar. Afinal a marcação serrada pouco lhe valeu... É nestes casos que estes competidores têm de se preocupar mais em surfar e dar um bom espetáculo e menos marcações. Claro que se tem que marcar aqueles que são uma "ameaça" para nós perdemos, mas desta maneira, é simplesmente uma perda de tempo e mau.

I was the last heat of the quarter finals, were i losted in 3rd place. There were a competitor of my heat that snaked me throughout the heat, not letting me catching waves. It was something I didn't understand because I was in the last position (4th place) and he was 3rd and it's supposed he been snaking who was winning, not who is in last with less chance of passing, but competition is competition and it's bad when that happens but we have to accept that, despite being a defeat by dirty game. Yet still made a wave in the last 30 seconds that passed me to 3rd place. After snaking me the whole heat he passed to 4th in the last seconds, definetly snaking isn't the bet option in this situation ... The competitors have to focus more on surf and give a good show and less snaking. Of course you have to snake those that are a "threat" between passing and lost a het, but in my case it's simply a waste of time and bad.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
De qualquer das maneiras, o destino quis que eu terminasse por aqui. Saí da água e estava normal, fui congratular os competidores que passaram no meu heat e desejar a maior sorte para o próximo heat e ainda lamentar a derrota ao outro competidor que me marcou todo o heat pois sei que competição é competição.

Anyway, fate decided that I should stop by here. I left the water and I was normal, I congratulate the other competitors who passed in my heat and wished them the best luck for the next heat.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Antes do heat, no meu interior algo me dizia que iria perder naquele heat, pois a missão estava cumprida. E mesmo na água estava super relaxado, mesmo com aquela marcação serrada. Achei super estranho tudo isso e estive a falar com a minha mãe mais de 1h após o meu heat sobre isso e cheguei à conclusão que o mais importante não é ganhar o campeonato, mas sim ganhar experiência, reconhecimento e divertir-me. Acho que Deus está a querer que eu ganhe experiência para que, quando ganhar uma prova, irá ser recordada para o resto da minha vida. Obrigada mãe!

Before the heat, something inside me told me that I was going to lose in that heat, because the mission was accomplished. And even the water I was super relaxed, even with that guy snaking me all the time. I thought all of this super weird and I talked with my mother more than a hour after my heat and I came to the conclusion that the most important thing is not winning the comp, but to gain experience, recognition and have fun. I think God is wanting me for now to gain experience for when I win a comp, I'll remembered it for the rest of my life. E assim foi, mais importante ainda que os campeonatos, foi o reconhecimento que ganhei, as palavras de conforto, os belos momentos proporcionados, os novos amigos feitos e ainda novas experiências. O campeonato estava com estruturas fantásticas, dignas de um mundial até! Podíamos exprimentar uma diversidade de coisas, fazer rappel, longboard, skimming, participar em actividades em que nos habilitávamos a ganhar máquinas fotográficas e muito mais, ainda tive a oportunidade de estar com o Piere-Louis Costes e estar presente no recorde mundial do Guiness que consisia no maior número bodyboarders possível na água e conseguímos quebrar! Foi uma autêntica festa e de grande vibes. Dantes o recorde era de 250 bodyboarders e foi na Austrália. Dia 2 de Julho na praia do Cabedelo foi de 272 bodyboarders! Foi sem dúvida o melhor campeonato em que já estive em que irei recordar.

Most important that the comps, was the recognition I had, the comfort words i received, the good times, the new friends and even the new experiences. The comp had fantastic structures! We could do a variety of things, do abseiling, longboard, skimming, participate in activities in which we could win cameras and more and still had the opportunity to be with Piere-Louis Costes and to be present in the Guinness World Record that concise as many riders as possible in the water and we break it! Big celebration and great vibes. Before us the record was 250 riders in Australia. Day 2 of July on Cadebelo's beach we were 272 riders in the water! It was without doubt the best comp I've ever been in that I will remember always.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quero agradeçer à Puremocean pelos óptimos momentos e por me receberem, à minha mãe pela fanástica força e apoio incondicionalmente, tanto nos bons como nos maus momentos, sempre que precisasse e mesmo quando não precisava, a todos os amigos/conhecidos pela fantástica força e apoio nestes dias, vocês são fantásticos! Nunca imaginei ter tanta gente a dar-me força e estar sempre do meu lado, foi simplesmente fantástico estar a ver tudo isso e fez com que nunca me sentisse sozinho e fui sem dúvida um previligiado e para mim ganhei com toda a vossa força e apoio.
